August 2025 marked a historic month for Aptekindo.

In the monthly Safety Initiative – 8 Point Contest of the Geo Engineering Division at PT Freeport Indonesia, our Working at Height (WAH) Rescue Team was crowned the overall champion.

The award, in the form of a certificate layered with 1 gram of gold, stands as tangible proof of our team’s dedication and hard work. This competition brought together various departments and contractor companies who presented their best safety initiatives.

Among the many candidates, Aptekindo’s Tyrolean Rescue initiative stood out and proved itself to be the most effective solution for handling emergency response at height. This innovation is highly relevant because most mining work involves working at height, such as slope stabilization, mine shaft works, mining construction, and others. These situations are full of risks ranging from falls, severe injuries, to being trapped in hard-to-reach locations.

That is why rescue methods at height must be fast, safe, and compliant with international safety standards. This achievement was not gained overnight. Previously, our WAH rescue team had prepared official SOPs, developed internationally standardized work guidelines, and equipped the team with the best rescue tools. Our team is led by personnel certified with TKPK Level 3 and Level 2 by the Ministry of Manpower of Indonesia, and supported by competent first aiders. Not stopping there, we also conducted a Full-Scale Drill Simulation at the Grasberg area, ensuring the Tyrolean method was truly effective before being showcased in the contest.

In the June 2025 simulation, an emergency scenario was carried out: A worker was injured while descending a steep slope. Using the tensioned rope system, our rescue team evacuated the victim across 30–40 meters with a 30-meter elevation difference. In just 7 minutes, the victim was already in the ambulance and receiving medical care — much faster compared to the old method which took 25 minutes. This success earned appreciation from PTFI Emergency & Preparedness Rescue, ISOS Medical Services, Security Risk & Management, and the Geo Engineering Project Owner.

In fact, three of Aptekindo’s best personnel were nominated as PTFI Volunteer Rescue members — a clear testament to the quality of our team.

Safety is our priority, and innovation is our commitment.

Aptekindo will continue to deliver safer, faster, and more effective solutions for the mining world.
